QuickBooks Online bank CSV format: the exact rules
The two accepted layouts
| 3 columns | Date, Description, Amount — money in positive, money out negative |
|---|---|
| 4 columns | Date, Description, Credit, Debit — money in under Credit, money out under Debit, both as positive numbers |
Rules that trip people up
- One header row only — remove bank names, account numbers and blank lines above it.
- No opening/closing balance rows and no totals at the bottom.
- One date format throughout (QuickBooks asks you which one on upload).
- No currency symbols or thousands separators in amounts; no amounts in parentheses.
- A description in every row.
Bankfold's CSV (QuickBooks Online) and QBO 4-column downloads follow every rule above. Or upload the .qbo file, which needs no column mapping.
