CSV to QBO converter
Turn any bank or credit card CSV into a .qbo Web Connect file for QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online. Runs in your browser — your statement is never uploaded.
Why convert CSV to QBO?
QuickBooks Desktop can't import a bank CSV into a bank register. It imports .qbo Web Connect files — the same format banks offer for direct download. Many banks only offer CSV for older periods, closed accounts or business cards, so you need a converter.
What Bankfold gets right
- Stable transaction IDs (FITIDs). Convert the same statement twice, or an overlapping one next month, and QuickBooks recognizes transactions it has already imported instead of duplicating them.
- Balance check. If your CSV has a running balance, every row is reconciled; a missing or split row is flagged before you import.
- Credit cards done right. Card exports that list purchases as positive numbers are detected and flipped, and the file is written as a credit card statement.
- Any layout: one amount column, separate debit/credit columns, CR/DR markers, parentheses for negatives, bank preambles, European
1.234,56numbers and DD/MM dates.
Importing the .qbo file
QuickBooks Desktop: File → Utilities → Import → Web Connect Files, then choose or create the account. QuickBooks Online: Transactions → Bank transactions → Upload transactions. See the step-by-step guide and fixes for common errors.
How it works
- Drop your bank or card export — CSV, TXT or an Excel/ODS spreadsheet.
- Check the columns. Bankfold detects the date, description, amounts and balance; change any column with its dropdown.
- Review and download a QBO, QFX, OFX, QIF or CSV file ready to import.
FAQ
Is it really private?
Yes. Your file is read and converted by JavaScript running in your browser tab. Its contents are never sent over the network. You can verify this in your browser's developer tools (Network tab), or disconnect from the internet after the page has loaded — conversion still works.
Which banks are supported?
Any bank or card that exports CSV, TXT or Excel — Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Capital One, Citi, American Express, RBC, TD, Barclays, HSBC, Monzo, Revolut, CommBank, Sparkasse and thousands more. Bankfold detects the columns automatically, and you can change any column with a dropdown; your choice is remembered for that layout.
Can it convert PDF statements?
Not directly — Bankfold converts CSV and spreadsheet exports. For PDF statements, use our sister tool TidyLedger, which also runs entirely in your browser.
Will QuickBooks import duplicates if I convert overlapping statements?
No, as long as the transactions are the same. Every transaction gets an ID based on its date, amount and description, so QuickBooks and Quicken recognize ones they've already imported.
Which file should I download?
QuickBooks Desktop or Online: QBO. Quicken: QFX. Xero, Sage, Wave, FreeAgent, GnuCash and most other apps: OFX. Older software: QIF. QuickBooks Online also accepts our 3- or 4-column CSV.
What's free?
Every format, one file at a time, up to 150 transactions per conversion. No account needed. Pro removes the limit and lets you merge several statements into one import with duplicates removed.
