How to import a .qbo file into QuickBooks Desktop and Online
QuickBooks Desktop
- Back up your company file.
- Choose File → Utilities → Import → Web Connect Files and select the .qbo file.
- QuickBooks asks which account to use. Pick the existing bank or credit card account, or create a new one. It remembers the link (by the account number in the file) next time.
- Open the Bank Feeds Center to review, match and add the downloaded transactions.
Keep the account number in Bankfold the same every month, or QuickBooks will ask you to link a "new" account.
QuickBooks Online
- Go to Transactions → Bank transactions (or Banking) and choose Upload transactions (sometimes under the Link account dropdown).
- Drag in the .qbo file and pick the QuickBooks account to add the transactions to.
- Review them under For review, then categorize and add.
Avoiding duplicates
Each transaction in a Bankfold file has an ID derived from its date, amount and description. Converting the same statement again produces the same IDs, so QuickBooks recognizes transactions it already has. Overlapping date ranges are therefore safe — but don't edit descriptions between conversions if you rely on this.
